Manor Marussia president Graeme Lowdon has been delighted with the job Will Stevens has done since joining the team.
The 23-year-old is contesting his first full season after making a one-off appearance for Caterham at last year’s finale in Abu Dhabi.
With the Manor a long way off the pace of the rest of the field, the Briton's performances can only be judged against his team-mate and Stevens has beaten Roberto Merhi in every qualifying session and grand prix both have contested.
"I have to say Will is doing a really good job - and I am not just saying that because he is in our team," Lowdon said on Sky Sports F1’s Midweek Report.
"You can’t see it on the timesheets because we are limited by how fast we can go at the moment, but he has hardly put a foot wrong. In fact, I was talking to a journalist in Barcelona who commented that he couldn’t see a single mistake all season so far, until he had that thought and Will ran a little bit wide.
"That is the only foot wrong so far - and that was in free practice I should add. He is doing a great job and it is up to us in the team to keep pushing and make sure we are closing the gap so that the drivers can then be tested against everyone else in a racing situation."
