Lotus Technical Director Nick Chester has reiterated that the two-pronged nose design on the E22 is legal.

The Enstone-based outfit turned heads when they tweeted the first pictures of their 2014 car on Friday with two tips rather than the 'pencil' or 'dolphin' configurations favoured by the other teams.

However, Chester insists that the car is legal and meets all the current technical regulations.

"Absolutely, as you know we have passed all the necessary crash tests and we are very confident that our design complies with all the FIA legal requirements - we have just taken an innovative direction, and one that's different to the other teams," he said.

"Where there are so many variations in design, there is always bound to be a little talk, but we remain relaxed and focussed on our design and progression."

Having now seen most of the teams reveal their 2014 cars, Chester is looking forward to seeing how all the different configurations of nose effect on-track performance.

"As we can see there are plenty of different solutions out there as we expected there would be with such a radical change of regulations," he added.

"There appears to be some elegant solutions and others that certainly don't look as nice! We're very happy with the direction we have taken and it will be very interesting to see how the cars perform once we get a proper chance to compare them on track."

Lotus are the only team who are sitting out the running in Jerez, but the Technical Director says they are on course to run at the second test.

"Yes, the car's coming together pretty well now," he revealed. "The build is well advanced and we think we'll be in good shape for Bahrain come the next test."

The Sky Sports F1 Online team will be providing live commentary of all three winter tests, with live updates from trackside also on Sky Sports News.
