Kimi Raikkonen has begun work as a Ferrari driver for a second time as he got behind the wheel of the team's simulator in Maranello.

The Finn drove for the Scuderia between 2007 and 2009 before an acrimonious split saw him spend two years rallying, returning to F1 with Lotus in 2012.

Raikkonen arrived at Ferrari's base on Monday morning and is scheduled to spend three days with his engineers and carrying out simulator work.

"It's good to be back at work," the 34-year-old told the team's official website.

"I began by getting used to all the new systems and procedures that we will use this year. From this point of view, the simulator is really very useful.

"It's true there's lots to do, but the workload is not much different to what it was in the past. For me, these days in Maranello are also an opportunity to be with the team and spend a bit more time with my many friends here."

The team added that by staying until Wednesday it proved Raikkonen was "keen to renew his relationship with the team that was his home from 2007 to 2009 as quickly as possible."

Although Ferrari are yet to announce a launch date for their new car, Raikkonen and team-mate Fernando Alonso are expected to run at the upcoming Jerez test in southern Spain.

The Sky Sports F1 Online team will be providing live commentary of all three winter tests, starting in Jerez on Tuesday January 28, with live updates from trackside also on Sky Sports News
