Fernando Alonso has pointed to his superior race record over Felipe Massa after the Spaniard was once more outqualified by his departing team-mate in Abu Dhabi on Saturday.

Alonso was then asked if there was any chance of repeating his triumphant row-five Valencia surge from last season, when he drove one the best races of his career to claim the victory. As ever the Spaniard refused to rule anything out, but admitted Ferrari needed to be realistic about their prospects given the F138's troubled practice form. However, despite both Ferraris starting behind both Mercedes and Lotus cars - the two teams who the Scuderia are fighting for second place in the Constructors' Championship - Alonso expressed belief that they could still outscore them on Sunday. "Who knows? In Valencia it was a complete surprise that starting 11th we won the race. If we win the race tomorrow it will be even more of a surprise I guess. But who knows?" he said. "We need to be more realistic, we need to start the race thinking that it will be tough because we have not been competitive in all the practice. We need to score good points and for this we need to have a perfect race. "I don't know what is the goal that we can achieve tomorrow because it's a little bit [of a] question mark, not only for us: I think for everybody going in to the race, nobody knows how competitive they will be. "But I'm still confident that we will get some good points and more points than our competitors. I'm confident."
