Sebastian Vettel admitted he did not have the best of afternoons at the Hungarian Grand Prix, despite extending his lead at the top of the Drivers' Championship.

The defending champion began the race in second place behind eventual winner Lewis Hamilton, but finished in third behind Kimi Raikkonen.

Vettel held off an aggressive Romain Grosjean at the start, and clung onto second place before dropping back in the first round of pit stops.

That put the German behind Jenson Button and when he went to pass the McLaren man in Turn One the two clashed, resulting in a broken front wing for Vettel.

He could not find a way past Raikkonen in second - later confirming he was not happy with the Finn's tactics - but Vettel blamed himself for failing to overtake him.

"It was not the best race," admitted the German. "The start was difficult and when Lewis pulled in we thought we could do it on the softs.

"I damaged my front wing which did not help. I tried to hang on in there and tried to fight back with Kimi. I could not get him on the straight. We wanted a little bit more today."

Asked if he had spoken to Raikkonen about the Finn's defensive driving, he said: "I told Kimi I was not happy but he was laughing. That's racing.

"I would have loved the race to have been a bit longer. But I got close but I wasn't in the prime overtaking spot at that point."

Vettel now leads Raikkonen by 38 points with Fernando Alonso a further one behind.
