Lewis Hamilton says he's still adapting to Mercedes W04 but first 2013 win 'will come'

Briton feels his first Silver Arrow has a small set-up window

Lewis Hamilton says his quest to consistently get the best out of his 2013 car remains an ongoing process seven months into life at Mercedes, with the Briton admitting he needs to show "patience" while he waits for his first win for his new team.

Although Hamilton has already achieved better results in his first season at the Anglo-German outfit than many had expected at the time of his high-profile transfer from McLaren last winter, he has still yet to stand on top of the podium in 2013 while team-mate Nico Rosberg has claimed two victories already.

Hamilton admitted four races ago at the Monaco GP that he had actually been "struggling" with the new W04 since the start of pre-season testing, with the 28-year-old still adapating to the braking systems on his new car.

Speaking to Sky Sports F1 at last weekend's German GP, the 28-year-old explained that he was still not on top of the W04 as regularly as he would like to be.

"This year I've don't feel like I've been able to always drive my best because there's almost like a smaller operating window with this car," Hamilton said in his exclusive interview with Martin Brundle, an extended version of which is now available to watch above.

"If you don't have it in that window the car's nowhere and you just have poor performances. From weekend to weekend, I wish I could have always had it in the window but some weekends it's not been right. But I guess that will just take time.

"I'm driving a car that's been built and designed around another driver, Michael [Schumacher] and Nico [Rosberg], so I'm trying to adapt all the skills and driving methods that I have to work with this one."

Hamilton is the only driver currently on the grid who has won at least one grand prix in every season in which he has raced in F1 to date, with the Briton's lowest season tally standing at two from 2009.

Having yet to win in his first nine races for Mercedes, Hamilton has ten attempts left to prolong that impressive record but insists he isn't getting uptight over his victory drought.

"This is a mental game as you know and you've just got to hold it together," the 21-times race winner told Martin.

"There's 11 races [now ten after Sunday] to go. I know that I have a car that I can compete with these guys and we have more and more developments coming through, so I know we're there or thereabouts and I feel that I just have to bide my time and be patient because I feel it will come at some stage."
