Force India have stolen a march on the rest of the F1 grid by offering fans a first look at a 2014 car.

In an unexpected move on Wednesday morning, the team opted to reveal a sneak-preview shot of their new charger, the VJM07.

According to the team, 'The VJM07 brings a fresh trackside image for the team with black alongside the traditional colours of saffron, white and green.'

"The VJM07 looks stunning and the new livery reflects the way Sahara Force India is evolving," said team owner Vijay Mallya. "I've always believed our cars have been the most eye-catching, but adding black as a main colour gives us a fierce new look.

"It's been a busy winter for us on the technical and commercial front," explains Vijay. "When I founded the team my first ambition was to launch the first Indian team on the grid, but the next stage in our evolution is to develop a global brand. I think that ambition is reflected in the partners we are working with and our world class driver line-up. It certainly feels as though there is the potential for 2014 to be our strongest season yet."

In what has been termed a 'rules revolution', a raft of aerodynamic and engine changes have been introduced for the new season in order to rip up the traditional pecking order and make the sport more 'green'.

With the 2013 season completed in the last week of November, the teams have been working around-the-clock to ready their new chargers in time for the upcoming Jerez test and the first race of the new season, the Australian GP on March 16.

"Almost every single part is a new design, from the front wing right back to the diffuser. The genetics of the VJM07 still lie in the 2013 car, but we've had to achieve the same results in a slightly different way," confirmed Technical Director, Andrew Green.

"It's been a massive job to accommodate all the changes to the power unit - it's the biggest change I've witnessed in the sport since I started in 1990. Cooling has been the biggest challenge with most of last summer taken up trying to understand the cooling requirements of the power unit, and how best to optimise it in the chassis."

Among the aerodynamic changes this season is the requirement for a much lower nose. However, amid speculation about how this might affect appearance, Green said Force India's chassis would soon change.

"Our nose is a launch spec and later we will have an updated front end of the car, which potentially is quite different," he added. "We had to take quite a pragmatic view of it and say we've got to go testing so we've got to get a car out of the door."

The car will be piloted this season by the returning Nico Hulkenberg and Mexican Sergio Perez following his release from McLaren.

Force India have also clarified that the VJM07 'will break cover for a photo call in the pit lane at 8:50 local time in Jerez on Tuesday 28th January'.
