Red Bull boss Christian Horner has revealed he can take some of the credit for Sebastian Vettel's Bahrain GP win after planting the seeds of the World Champion's early race-defining overtakes with his driver before the start.

After claiming what turned into a resounding season victory of the season at Sakhir, Vettel suggested his brilliant early moves on first Fernando Alonso and then Nico Rosberg had been the "most important thing" to his afternoon as from there he was able to run in clean air and manage tyre wear.

The overtaking moves on his two rivals on laps one and three respectively were near identical in their nature with Vettel taking a wider line on approach to the turn four hairpin only to cut back to the far inside on exit which gave him the inside line for the next braking zone at turn six.

However, it appears that the inspiration for those passes came from his team boss no less, who explained to reporters after the race how he had relayed to Vettel some of his observations from the weekend's support races.

"We talked before the race about the undercut out of turn four," the Team Principal explained.

"I mentioned it to him on the grid that the undercut on turn four in some of the support races had worked very well."

And with no apparent irony in wake of the rumpus caused by Vettel's now infamous disregard of his boss's instructions at last month's Malaysian GP, Horner added: "It looked like he listened!"

Speaking in his post-race Notebook, Sky Sports F1's Ted Kravitz added: "Horner is of course an ex-racing driver himself and said to Sebastian 'that's quite good you should try that' and Sebastian was like 'yeah, yeah don't tell me my job!'

"So it tickled Christian rather that that is precisely what Sebastian did!"
