McNish: Vettel won't join Ferrari

Allan McNish thinks Sebastian Vettel will not join Fernando Alonso at Ferrari in 2014 as there would be a personality clash between the drivers.

Sky Sports pundit feels Vettel and Alonso could not work together

Allan McNish thinks Sebastian Vettel will not join Fernando Alonso at Ferrari in 2014 as there would be a personality clash between the drivers. The Sky Sports F1 HD pundit - who will be part of the team at the British, German and Hungarian Grands Prix - feels that a team needs to have a clear number one driver and thinks teams will have learned from Alonso and Lewis Hamilton's acrimonious relationship at McLaren in 2007. Stefano Domenicali commented that he felt Alonso and Vettel "could co-exist" at Ferrari, however, McNish feels the Italian was merely trying to unsettle the Red Bull team. "I don't at the moment," he said when asked if he could picture Vettel driving for the Scuderia. "I think there is a little bit of stirring going on by various parties. It is never bad from a driver's point of view to have other teams talking about you. "It is also never negative if a comment comes out like it did from Ferrari with Domenicali saying he could see two drivers co-existing. But, I do think it was a case of Domenicali as much saying, 'look, Ferrari's quite an open book,' as opposed to 'we are having conversations and trying to get Vettel alongside Alonso'. "I still think that it is very, very difficult to have two number ones in a team. I think there is an element where you have to have a number one clearly back, with extremely good support behind it. "And if you look back through the years, just look at Lewis and Alonso at McLaren, in so many eyes Lewis became the equal number one and that unsettled Fernando. I don't think it was the best thing for McLaren without doubt. "I think they are in a better situation where they are right now, with two guys with slightly different personalities, and I would suggest that maybe Fernando and Sebastian together, there wouldn't be harmony and love. I think it could be a little bit more tricky than what they would want it to be."
