Ross Brawn has told Sky Sports F1 he could move to another team if he is no longer 'top dog' at Mercedes.

The Team Principal's future has been the subject of much speculation all season, with some seeing the recruitment of Paddy Lowe from McLaren as the Silver Arrows lining up a replacement 58-year-old.

Alongside Brawn and Lowe, Mercedes also have Aldo Costa, Bob Bell and Geoff Willis as senior technical staff and the Team Principal says the German-marque need to make it clear who is in charge if he is to continue.

"I think we need a very clear definition of who is in charge and obviously I need the motivation to carry on," he told Sky Sports F1.

"I think the situation we have now is very different is probably a bit different to 12 months ago when some of these decisions were made so to some degree it is just unravelling what's gone on and finding a satisfactory solution."

Brawn was linked with former employer Honda by the German media earlier this week ahead of their return to F1 in 2015 as an engine supplier and the Englishman has hinted he would be open with a move to another team.

When asked if he would walk away from the sport if he was not 'top dog' at Mercedes Brawn replied: "Not necessarily walk away from the sport."

Sky pundit Johnny Herbert worked with Brawn during his time at Benetton and can understand why his former boss may opt to leave Mercedes as he is a man who likes to have complete control.

"Ross wants to be in charge and Ross wants to do all the working within the team and at the moment that is being taken away from him," he commented. "That is why there is the threat."
