Lewis Hamilton has apologised to his Mercedes team after suffering the ignominy of an early exit from qualifying for the Italian GP.

Speaking later, team boss Ross Brawn said he "honestly couldn't tell" whether the incident with Sutil was the difference between Hamilton progressing to Q3 and being knocked out. He did, however, say that the floor damage Hamilton mentioned was caused at the Ascari corner and not when he ran wide exiting Parabolica on his first flying lap in Q2.
