Sebastian Vettel admits he was left in awe of Lewis Hamilton's lap after the Mercedes driver took pole by four tenths at Silverstone.
As expected, the Silver Arrows locked out the front row of the grid, with the Red Bulls completing the second row.
The triple-World Champion conceded that pole was beyond him on Saturday, but is hoping for a better performance in the race.
"We'll obviously see what happens tomorrow, it's a long race, but very happy today," Vettel said.
"I don't know, either Lewis found a short-cut or he has something special around here, because it was a phenomenal lap!
"I think it wasn't in reach today [for Red Bull]. I was very happy with the lap I had at the end and it was very close with Mark as well. So I think what we could for the team and it's always nice to position well in qualifying, especially round here. Qualifying is good fun, I'm enjoying the high-speed corners, and am looking forward to the race.
"We will see how we are with tyres, looking after them, but as I said very happy for the team right now. So it's a good position to start from."
