The final young driver test of the season has begun in Abu Dhabi - with Red Bull and McLaren two of the six teams in action from Tuesday to Thursday.
A number of drivers taking part in the test at the Yas Marina circuit could be in contention for race seats next season - particularly the Sauber pair of Esteban Gutierrez and Robin Frijns, who are pushing for a race seat alongside Nico Hulkenberg next season.
Gutierrez acted as Sauber reserve driver during the 2012 season and after finishing third in the GP2 standings, the Mexican was expected to be promoted to a race seat following Sergio Perez's departure. But the Swiss team's decision to also test Formula Renault 3.5 Champion Frijns suggests the test could be used as a shootout between the pair.
Frijns will also test for Red Bull - as a reward for taking the FR 3.5 title. He will joined there by the highly rated Antonio Felix da Costa, who impressed after being parachuted into the World Series by the Red Bull junior programme.
At McLaren regular testers Gary Paffett and Oliver Turvey will be joined by Kevin Magnussen. The 20-year-old Dane is the son of Jan, who drove for McLaren at the Pacific GP in 1995. He joined McLaren's Young Driver Programme last year and carried simulator work alongside his FR 3.5 commitments with Carlin this year
