After Michael van Gerwen averaged 112.91 to beat Phil Taylor, Wayne Mardle feels the standard of darts has become 'ridiculous'.
The Dutchman, who recorded an average of 116.90 in the 7-0 whitewash of James Wade last week, was back in the groove against Taylor on week 13 of the Premier League darts in Birmingham.
World No 1 van Gerwen will claim top spot in the table with one more victory, but his performance against the 16-time world champion had Mardle drooling over the current standard of darts.
"We keep saying that the players are getting better and better - they really are but it's the fear factor from all of them - they've got no limits," the former world championship semi-finalist told Sky Sports 1.
"There used to be a point years ago when someone would average 105 and it would be 'I can't get any better than that'.
"They're now saying 'I know what I can do - in practice I may reach 120'. Gary Anderson has mentioned this so often in practice - 125 and 130 even.
"These guys know they can do it leg in, leg out. You have got to feel for Phil Taylor there - averaging 107 and getting beat.
"He averaged 115 against Barney (Raymond van Barneveld) and gets beat. It's all about timing.
"Sometimes it was only going to take a nine-darter to take a leg of Michael and that is how ridiculous it has got.
"Look, this is the golden age of darts right now and if you think you're good enough at home, then come and stand up here because that's how good you have got to be - it's lunacy."
