Gary Anderson was back practicing in his local pub for the first time since becoming the 2015 World Darts Champion.

World champion Gary Anderson insists Phil Taylor will still be remembered as the ‘greatest ever’, despite his defeat in the Alexandra Palace final.

The Scot ruined Taylor’s bid for a 17th world title when he completed a thrilling 7-6 win over ‘The Power’ earlier this month.

Anderson’s success and the emergence of Dutchman Michael van Gerwen have threatened Taylor’s standing near the summit of the sport.

But the Stoke man has racked up a lengthy list of trophies during his glittering career and Anderson doubts whether any player will ever surpass his achievements.

“I’ve always said, if you’re ever going to win a big title, it will be Phil Taylor, because for the last 20-plus years he’s dominated darts,” the 44-year-old told Sky Sports News HQ.

“He’ll be remembered as the greatest ever. To beat Phil, it’s something special, because he doesn’t lose too many finals in the world championships.”

Anderson will soon turn his attention to the upcoming Premier League campaign which starts in Leeds on February 5.

But he admits his life is only just starting to settle down following his Ally Pally triumph.

“It’s been chock-a-block. I’ve been on the go since I got back last Monday,” he said. “For the last week, it’s never stopped, so it’s been a bit hectic. I’m not used to that kind of living. I like the peace and quiet.

“It’s been hectic, but it’s been good. It’s been an eye-opener.”
