Players Championship: Weekend wins for Michael van Gerwen and Gary Anderson

Michael van Gerwen won the second Players Championship of the year courtesy of a 6-1 victory against Dean Winstanley at the Barnsley Metrodome on Sunday.
The world champion began his road to a third title of 2014 with a trio of 6-2 wins over Andy Parsons, Andy Jenkins and John Part before defeating Gerwyn Price 6-3 to secure a quarter-final spot.
The Dutchman then beat Michael Smith 6-4 with the aid of a 164 checkout, before sealing a place in the final thanks to a 6-3 win over Belgian Kim Huybrechts.
Yorkshireman Winstanley produced the best performance of his PDC career to date to reach the final, beating Gary Anderson in a deciding leg in the last eight before seeing off Raymond van Barneveld 6-4 in the semi-finals.
However he was no match for the world No 1 in the final with van Gerwen racing to victory in just 12 minutes to secure his 20th PDC title.
Anderson was bidding to complete a weekend double after winning the first Players Championship of 2014 at the same venue on Saturday.
The Scot won his third title of the year by defeating Gary Stone, John Henderson, James Hubbard, Wes Newton, Andy Hamilton and Mervyn King on his way to the final.
He then produced a 111.47 average as he edged out Suffolk's Andrew Gilding 6-5 in a thrilling final.
Van Gerwen was beaten 6-3 by Norwich's Darren Webster at the last 32 stage, while UK Open champion Adrian Lewis lost 6-4 to King in the quarter-finals after hitting a nine-dart finish in his 6-2 second round victory over Joe Cullen.
