Stephen Bunting: The Lakeside champion is ready to take on the best of the PDC
Stephen Bunting insists preparation is key as he attempts to compete with the best the PDC can offer following his first tournament win in a UK Open Qualifier.
Following defeat to Michael van Gerwen on his debut 24 hours earlier, the BDO world champion saw off Andrew Gilding 6-5 in the final at Wigan's Robin Park Tennis Centre to claim the £10,000 first prize and a place at the UK Open in March.
'The Bullet', who switched organisations following his Lakeside win last month, has already risen up inside the top 80 of the PDC Order of Merit after just two events played.
And now the 28-year-old from Liverpool says he is ready to compete with the game's elite.
"It was a hard decision to make the switch but with that result (Saturday) it's justified the move," Bunting told Sky Sports.
"It's amazing. You look around and there's Van Gerwen and (Phil) Taylor, (Raymond) van Barneveld and all the massive players in the world at the minute and to be part of that is really brilliant for me.
"I didn't go out and celebrate much last night. I chilled out, got to bed early and I'm up early ready to do it all again.
"Preparation is the key in this game and you've got to be focused on the next game that's coming up."
