World champion Phil Taylor produced a string of superb displays to triumph in the Gibraltar Darts Trophy, his first European Tour victory of the year.

Taylor comfortably defeated Jamie Lewis 6-1 in the final, having earlier beaten Steve Beaton 6-0 in the last eight and Dave Chisnall 6-2 in the semis.

Taylor got his day off to a great start with the whitewash of Beaton, who averaged over 100 himself but could not win a leg against Taylor, who averaged 112.73.

It was a similar story in the semi-final against Chisnall, as Taylor raced into a 4-0 lead, helped by a 109 checkout, before cruising to victory.

And Taylor completed a majestic weekend of darts with a comprehensive victory in the final over Welsh youngster Lewis, who had won two final leg thrillers to reach the decider.

Lewis denies Painter

Facing Kevin Painter in the last eight, Lewis posted his sixth maximum of the game in the deciding leg and then hit double 14 to progress.

His namesake Adrian Lewis was his next opponent and the Welshman won a thriller, missing a pair of match darts in the final leg, but then hitting double two when his opponent missed double top, ten and five.

Adrian Lewis had earlier ended Michael van Gerwen's European Tour winning run with a 6-5 quarter-final success.

Lewis was pegged back after racing into a 3-0 lead but came up with a 13-darter to secure the win.

Michael van Gerwen 5-6 Adrian Lewis

Kevin Painter 5-6 Jamie Lewis

Steve Beaton 0-6 Phil Taylor

Kim Huybrechts 4-6 Dave Chisnall
