Raymond van Barneveld could potentially meet old rival Phil Taylor for the first-time in the Speedy Services UK Open final after winning a nail-biting quarter-final clash with Ronnie Baxter.

The Dutch ace came from 7-4 behind to lead 9-8 at Bolton on Sunday but then missed one dart at double 16 and Baxter sunk double one to set up a last leg decider.

Baxter had one dart at double 16 to win the clash but missed and two-times champion Barney landed double eight to progress to the last four, where he will meet Andy Hamilton.

Hamilton beat James Wade 10-8 in another close game, winning the final two legs to see out the victory which took him into the semi-finals of the event for the first time.

But Wade will rue his failure to hit tops late on in the game. With the score at 8-8, Wade missed one dart at tops and Hamilton held his nerve to take out an 84 finish, sinking the bullseye to win the crucial leg.

Then in the deciding leg, Wade missed two attempts at tops and Hamilton landed double ten with his third dart to set up his semi-final date with Barney.

In the other semi-final, four times champion Taylor will play Peter Wright after the World No. 1 ended Michael van Gerwen's hopes of a first UK Open title with a 10-7 victory.

Decisive

Taylor and van Gerwen were drawing at 6-6 when the decisive period of play took place, with Taylor taking three legs on the bounce, including one with a 125 checkout, to move to within just one leg of victory.

Dutch ace van Gerwen hit double top for a 13-dart finish to break Taylor's throw but then missed three darts at double 18 to narrow the deficit to 9-8. Taylor stepped up to land double four with his third dart to set up his clash with Wright.

Wright, displaying an eye-catching snake head tattoo to compliment his multi-coloured hair, saw-off a below-par Adrian Lewis 10-6.

He raced to an 9-2 lead before Lewis got into his game, with the twice world champion taking four legs on the bounce to reduce the deficit before Wright landed tops to record the most important win of his career to date.
