Michael van Gerwen: Assured a place in UK Open in June
Michael van Gerwen continued his run of success with victory over Dave Chisnall in the final of the first Speedy Services UK Open Qualifier of the year.
The Dutchman dismantled Chisnall 6-2 at the K2 Centre in Crawley to pick up the £6,000 winner's cheque following his success over Raymond van Barneveld in the Premier League 48 hours earlier.
The world No 4 won eight matches on the day to come through a field of 238 players and never lost more than three legs in any one tie.
Van Gerwen took the lead with a double-eight finish against Chisnall but allowed the St Helens man back into the tie when he busted on 181 when he threw a maximum in the second leg.
An exchange of breaks kept the players tied at 2-2 before Van Gerwen restored order when he took out 68 on double four for a 15-darter.
Chisnall was first to a finish in the sixth leg but missed three doubles to allow Van Gerwen to break on double eight and the 23-year-old needed no further encouragement, wraping up victory with a 13-darter on double tops.
"It's a good step towards the UK Open and for the ProTour rankings and I showed everyone that I'm still on form," said van Gerwen.
"I didn't play my best game but I still won my games and that's important. I had confidence and the belief in myself that I could win today and I'm very proud. It's a great win on my list!"
The win ensures that van Gerwen will be amongst the top 32 players for June's UK Open.
