Darryl Fitton produced a superb display to oust top seed Stephen Bunting in the second round of the BDO World Dart Championships.
Fitton, seeded 16, matched the heavy scoring of his opponent and took his chances when they arose to clinch a memorable 4-2 success and a place in round three.
Bunting will be wondering how he ended a loser after finishing with an average of nearly 96 and a check-out percentage of 46, but lose he did as Fitton maintained his perfect record in second round matches at Frimley Green.
After the opening two sets were shared without a leg going against the darts, it was Bunting who secured the first break at the start of set three with a 167 check-out - the highest of the tournament to date.
The Liverpudlian would go on to take the set and then had five darts to open a 3-1 lead, but he missed allowing Fitton to step in and hit double-18 to level the contest.
That profligacy would prove costly for Bunting as Fitton took out 116 on his way to winning the fifth set and he then produced 11 and 14-darters before closing out the match by hitting double-14 at the second time of asking.
Harms fights back
Fitton will now face Holland's Wesley Harms after the Dutchman came from two sets down to record a dramatic 4-3 victory over close friend Alan Norris.
Harms got his comeback going with a 150 check-out to win set three and, despite missing no fewer than nine darts at double in the deciding leg of set four, eventually hit double-one to level matters.
The next two sets were shared, but Harms held his nerve to prevail three legs to one in the decider as he took out double-eight.
Number four seed, and last year's finalist, Tony O'Shea proved a convincing 4-1 winner against fellow Englishman Steve Douglas.
O'Shea fired in a 161 check-out in the first leg of the match as he won the opening set, only for Douglas to respond by taking the second in fine style.
But O'Shea then showed his class as he reeled off nine legs on the spin to book his spot in the next round where he will face Robbie Green who beat Scott Mitchell 4-1 in the night's opening clash.
