Phil Taylor has played down suggestions his illustrious career could be coming to an end ahead of the 2013 World Darts Championship.

The 52-year-old, nicknamed 'The Power', is the greatest ever to have played the game having won an incredible 15 world titles.

Taylor suffered a second round defeat to Dutchman Michael van Gerwen in the Grand Slam of Darts last month, only to hit back in style by claiming a third Players Championship Finals title last week.

"I've just won a major. Am I finished? Not by a long shot, no."

He has been dominating the sport for 17 years and, worryingly for opponents, he has no thoughts of hanging up his darts anytime soon.

"I've just won a major. Am I finished? Not by a long shot, no," he told Sky Sports.

"As long as you keep yourself quite healthy then you can go on a lot longer, it's not football."

Pressure

Taylor's one-time protege Adrian Lewis is the two-time defending champion of the tournament, although 'Jackpot' has endured a difficult year.

Taylor believes the pressure is firmly on the 27-year-old to perform at Alexandra Palace this year.

"I think he's under pressure, without a shadow of a doubt," Taylor said of Lewis.

"He's had a tough year. He's been beaten a few times, so that's going to be in the back of his mind.

"He's going to play well, but I think other people are playing well against him as well and beginning to beat him."
