Van Barneveld: Hoping for first Premier League final

Raymond van Barneveld insists previous results will count for nothing as he faces Gary Anderson hoping for his first ever place in the Premier League final on Thursday.

Barney has reached the semis of the 888.com Premier League Darts for the fifth time in six seasons, but has lost on his four previous visits to the last four.

Two late season wins over Anderson and Mark Webster saw the Dutchman finish second in the final table behind Phil Taylor, but he does not see himself as a big favourite for his semi-final.

Van Barneveld has beaten Anderson twice this season but knows from experience that those results do not translate into semi-final wins.

Having lost to James Wade twice, Terry Jenkins and Roland Scholten in his previous Premier League semi-finals, he is determined to finally go one step further at Wembley on Thursday.

No guarantees

"Just because I finished second, you don't have anything guaranteed," said van Barneveld. "I beat Roland Scholten twice 8-3 in my first Premier League, then he beat me 11-3 in the play-offs.

"Terry Jenkins beat me in the play-offs, James Wade beat me twice, so you can't take anything for granted.

"Last year I missed the play-offs but that was caused by some very sad times for me and my family, but you can see that if my mind is clear I've reached the semi-finals five times out of six. I still believe in myself. "
Raymond van Barneveld Quotes of the week

"Last year I missed the play-offs but that was caused by some very sad times for me and my family, but you can see that if my mind is clear I've reached the semi-finals five times out of six. I still believe in myself."

Five-time world champion van Barneveld is in solid form as he is unbeaten in his last five Premier League games, but has not been hitting the heights with his averages.

Flying Scotsman Anderson has produced some amazing performances at times over the season but has not found total consistency, but he still represents a real danger.

"Gary will bring the best out of me, I'm pretty sure of that," added van Barneveld.

"Last week wasn't the way I can play but if you're already qualified it's a different kind of pressure. I know that if I have to win I'll play my normal good game."
