Wayne Mardle reckons Phil Taylor is still improving after seeing him win his 14th World Matchplay title on Sunday.

In a riveting final in Blackpool, Taylor made it six successive titles in a row with an 18-13 victory over Adrian Lewis.

"Phil Taylor's average was 111.23 and it really is unthinkable for a player to do that over 31 legs."

Lewis was in fine form but 'The Power' produced some outstanding darts and his 111.23 average left Sky Sports expert Mardle stunned.

"Adrian Lewis said before the game that if he played his A game then he would win- I am afraid he didn't," said Mardle.

"Lewis had an average of 105.92 and it was not good enough. Phil Taylor's average was 111.23 and it really is unthinkable for a player to do that over 31 legs. We have never seen the likes of that in a final.

"We have seen it from Phil in shorter formats but not in this format. His 106.28 tournament average is the highest average he has ever done - at the age of 52 is he improving?

"The stats say he is; he is getting more and more consistent and, although the likes of Michael van Gerwen, James Wade and Lewis are all playing brilliantly, all of a sudden Phil has pushed the bar up even more and said 'you have to get to me again now boys'.

"We said three years ago that his reign would end - we said last year that it would end. Phil Taylor has got at least five more years and it is all up to him."
