Rod Harrington thinks Terry Jenkins could be a potential threat for Michael van Gerwen after his first round victory over John Weber.

Terry Jenkins’ winning performance over John Weber on Saturday night was “as good as we’ve seen” at the World Championship, according to Rod Harrington.

He plays his own game and so many times he knows how to get to a major final.

‘The Bull’ averaged 97.33 en route to a 3-1 victory in the first round and sent a reminder of his enduring qualities.

Jenkins has reached nine major finals and Harrington believes that, on the evidence of his latest win, he could reach a 10th in early January.

“He plays his own game and so many times he knows how to get to a major final,” Harrington. “He's just got to get over that final hurdle and win one.

"That's as good a performance as we've seen. The only mistake he made was three darts missed at the double in that second set.

"Great scoring on the doubles and 16 140s which he's very good at."

Terry 'The Bull' Jenkins moved into the second round after beating John Weber 3-1.

Jenkins could be set for a third-round collision with defending champion Michael van Gerwen if both players win their second- round contest – a rematch of November’s Players Championship match when Jenkins secured a big upset.

Harrington continued: "He's already beaten Michael at a major event this year. He doesn't fear anybody. Every top quality darts player knows what a top player he is. He's got lots of bottle and he's not scared of anybody.”
