Olympic track champion Dani King admits her winning return from injury has done wonders for her confidence after five months out due to a horrific crash in training.

The Wiggle Honda rider punctured a lung and broke eight ribs after a hitting a pothole and coming off her bike during a training ride near her home in Cardiff last November.

But she made a successful returned from injury at the weekend, winning the first stage of the Tour of the Reservoir as the snow came down in Northumbria.

“I didn’t know what to expect,” King told the Sportswomen show on Sky Sports News HQ. “I didn’t know whether I’d freak out.

“If I can get through conditions like that then I think I can get through anything.

“I’ve taken a lot from that race, a lot of confidence on and off the bike just with my mental state I guess, as well as my physical condition so it couldn’t have gone any better.”
