Mark Cavendish will return to the track next month to ride the Gent Six races in Belgium.

The event takes place from November 18-23 and is contested by teams of two over six disciplines: Madison, derny race, elimination race, time trial, points race and sprint.

Cavendish last competed in the event in 2007. He had been hoping to take part last year, but his Omega Pharma - Quick-Step team manager, Patrick Lefevere, blocked the move out of fear of his star sprinter getting injured.

However, Cavendish has been given permission to join up with Omega Pharma - Quick-Step team-mate Iljo Keisse at this year's Gent Six as he bids to build fitness for the 2015 road season.
