Mark Cavendish sprinted to victory for the second day in a row to extend his overall lead of the Tour du Poitou-Charentes in France.

The Omega Pharma – Quick-Step rider beat Movistar’s Enrique Sanz into second place and FDJ.fr’s Lorrenzo Manzin into third on stage two’s 183.6km ride from Marans to Niort.

The ten bonus seconds he received for the victory see him stretch his advantage at the top of the general classification to 14 seconds over second-placed Sanz and third-placed Maxime Daniel.

Cavendish said: "I have to thank my teammates for the effort once again. Today we probably executed even better than yesterday, which is pretty impressive considering how brilliant they were in the first stage."

It was Cavendish's 11th win of the season.
