BMC Racing got off to the best-possible start at the Giro del Trentino with victory in the opening team time trial test.
The team of Cadel Evans pulled off the quickest time on the pan-flat 14.3-kilometre course, winning the stage by an impressive 15 seconds to place Daniel Oss into the race lead.
Team NetApp-Endura - featuring Brit Scott Thwaites - took second on the day, edging out Team Sky by four seconds during a hard-fought stage.
Sky had set the early benchmark and despite having to start the race with six out of a possible eight riders captured third, led across the line by Sir Bradley Wiggins.
Movistar and Cannondale rounded out the top five, 22 and 23 seconds respectively behind BMC - the only team to set an intermediate split under the seven minute mark - and lead GC contender Evans.
The action continues on Wednesday with stage two and a summit finish at San Giacomo di Brentonico.
