Mark Cavendish will start his 2014 season at next month's Tour de San Luis in Argentina.
The 28-year-old Briton has been named in a six-man Omega Pharma - Quick-Step team for the seven-day race, which takes place from January 20-26.
Cavendish will be joined by Tom Boonen, Alessandro Petacchi, Gianluca Brambilla, Stijn Vandenbergh and Guillaume van Keirsbulck.
The Tour de San Luis combines flat stages with mountain-top finishes and is a popular season-opener for both sprinters and climbers.
Cavendish returns to the race for the second successive year, having won the opening stage of the 2013 edition.
Omega Pharma - Quick-Step sports director Davide Bramati said: "We can't deny we have a good team at the starting line.
"Cav, Tom, and Peta together have garnered more than 400 victories in the years of their careers, a truly incredible number that speaks volumes about the potential of the squad.
"Cav and Tom have also won in this race and they are familiar with its dynamics. In the stage for sprinters we will be called on to take the initiative."
