Lotto-Belisol rider Greg Henderson will miss the start of the 2014 season after requiring surgery on a persistent knee problem.

The 37-year-old New Zealander has been suffering from tendon pain known as prepatellar friction syndrome.

Rest and treatment failed to alleviate the problem, so Henderson underwent an operation on Monday.

Team-mate Bart de Clercq is also currently out of action after fracturing a rib during team-building last week.

The 27-year-old Belgian will return to training when the pain subsides, but Lotto-Belisol gave no timescale on his recovery.
