Lucy Garner now leads the Tour of Chongming Island in China
Great Britain's double junior world champion Lucy Garner claimed her first professional victory on Wednesday.
The 18-year-old Argos-Shimano rider, from Leicestershire, won the opening stage of the Tour of Chongming Island in China, taking the race lead.
Garner wrote on Twitter: "My first Pro win today. Girls looked after me the whole race so a massive thank you! I was given the opportunity to sprint against the best.
"And I'm so happy to have taken the stage win and yellow jersey for the team!"
Garner announced herself as one of the brightest young prospects in women's cycling by winning the junior world road race title in 2011 and then defending it in 2012.
Those successes prompted Netherlands-based team Argos-Shimano to offer her a professional contract, and she is now midway through her first campaign with the outfit.
Her previous best professional result had been a sixth place at Dwars Door de Westhoek in Belgium last month.
