Mark Cavendish has added Driedaagse van West-Vlaanderen to his schedule
Mark Cavendish will use the three-day Driedaagse van West-Vlaanderen this weekend as his final warm-up for next week's Tirreno-Adriatico.
The 27-year-old Omega Pharma - Quick-Step rider has added the race to his schedule after last Sunday's Kuurne-Bruxelles-Kuurne was cancelled due to snow.
Driedaagse van West-Vlaanderen runs from Friday to Sunday, with a prologue preceding two road stages.
Quick-Step sports director Tom Steels said: "On the team we will have Mark Cavendish, who decided together with the team to participate in the race after Kuurne-Brussel-Kuurne was cancelled.
"The race will be perfect for Mark to prepare in the best way for Tirreno-Adriatico.
"We will count on a very strong group of riders for this race, including Niki Terpstra, who is in good condition, and Gert Steegmans, who will start working on setting up the sprint and his lead-out with Mark.
"Our objectives are to try and win a stage and repeat the good GC results of 2012. We have the potential to do that."
Cavendish has been out of action since riding at the Volta ao Algarve earlier this month and is building up to Tirreno-Adriatico, which takes place from March 6-12.
He will be joined by four other Britons at Driedaagse van West-Vlaanderen, with Scott Thwaites, Jonathan McEvoy and Erick Rowsell having been selected by Team NetApp-Endura and Mark McNally representing An Post - Chainreaction.
