Movistar have signed Team Sky rider Alex Dowsett on a two-year contract ahead of the 2013 season.

The two-time British time-trial champion, 24, joined Team Sky as a neo-pro at the end of 2010 but after a promising first season with Dave Brailsford's squad, he saw much of his 2012 campaign dogged by injuries.

A statement on www.movistarteam.com read: "Alex Dowsett, winner of the last two editions of the individual time-trial national championship and eighth at the 2012 Worlds (time-trial), will ride at Eusebio Unzue's squad in 2013."

Dowsett also released a statement via his own Facebook page, which read: "Leaving Team Sky was one of the toughest decisions I have ever had to make.

"This isn't a decision I have taken lightly, Sky is a fantastic team and I was flattered that they wanted me to stay but I have a new opportunity and a new chapter of my career.

"I would like to thank everybody at Team Sky who have supported me over the last couple of years.

"I now look forward to an exciting 2013 with Movistar."
