German sprints to second stage win at Post Danmark Rundt

Andre Greipel (Lotto-Belisol) claimed his second straight stage victory at the Post Danmark Rundt after outsprinting his rivals on stage two in Aarhus. The German, who also won the opening stage on Wednesday, extended his lead in the overall standings as he again swept up the 10 bonus seconds on offer for the first man across the line. Michael van Stayen (Topsport Vlaanderen-Mercator) took second place ahead of Steele von Hoff (Garmin-Sharp), with Alexander Kristoff (Katusha) and Team Sky rider Luke Rowe close behind in fourth and fifth respectively. The peloton was buffeted by crosswinds during the 211km trip south from Logstor, with the bunch being split into echelons before managing to regroup with around 40km to go. By that point Jelle Wallays (Topsport Vlaanderen-Mercator), Jaroslaw Marycz (Saxo Bank-Tinkoff Bank), Jacob Rathe (Garmin-Sharp) and Bjorn Thurau (Europcar) had formed a four-man break heading into the closing stages. The peloton responded by organising a chase as Team Sky, Lotto-Belisol and Rabobank started to work on the front in an attempt to being things together for a sprint finish. The quartet remained strong out front, however, and still had an advantage of over a minute as they passed through the 10km to go mark. Heading into the closing stages Wallays attacked alone and still had a slim margin over the peloton when the rest of the break were swallowed up with a little over 2km left. But the Belgian was finally caught inside the last kilometre, where Greipel pounced to take his second win in as many days.
