Jason Kenny: Two wins from two

Great Britain's Jason Kenny and Ed Clancy both enjoyed productive days inside the London Velodrome on Saturday.

Kenny - who won silver in Beijing four years ago - justified his selection in the men's individual sprint ahead of Sir Chris Hoy by qualifying fastest with an Olympic record of 9.713 seconds in the morning session, and that result earned him a first-round bye.

The 24-year-old from Bolton met South Africa's Bernard Esterhuizen in the second round and progressed serenely.

Kenny made his move from high on the banking entering the final lap and was untroubled as he powered to a victory which saw him advance to Sunday's best-of-three quarter-finals.

Gregory Bauge (France), Shane Perkins (Australia), Njisane Nicholas Phillip (Trinidad), Denis Dmitriev (Russia) and Jimmy Watkins (USA) also advanced into the last eight, with Germany's Robert Forstermann and Malaysian Awang Azizulhasni eventually joining them after triumphing in the second-round repechage.

Clancy in contention

In the men's omnium, Ed Clancy won his opening event, the flying lap, in convincing style but finished a disappointing 11th in the 30km points race before making amends with his fifth place in the elimination.

Those results ensured the 27-year-old from Huddersfield sits in fourth place overall with 17 points behind France's Bryan Coquard (10), Italian Elia Viviani (13) and Australian Glann O'Shea (14). Three events remain.
