Triple Olympic gold medallist wins on day five in Manchester

Sir Chris Hoy claimed victory in the keirin on day five of the National Track Cycling Championships at the Manchester Velodrome. The triple Olympic gold medal winner from Beijing was in command from the start of the final to finish first ahead of Jason Kenny and Christian Lyte. Ross Edgar, who claimed the Olympic silver medal in the event behind Hoy in Beijing last year, could only finish sixth. Pete Mitchell won the minor final. Earlier, Hoy led Kenny and Lyte home in the second semi-final, with Edgar finishing second behind Matt Crampton - who had to settle for fourth in the final - in the first. Meanwhile, another rider to strike gold in Beijing, Victoria Pendleton, claimed her third title of the championships with a commanding victory in the women's keirin. Pendleton's victory was similarly never in doubt as she went off the front early to cross the line ahead of Becki James with Helen Scott third. Planet X took the national team pursuit title in the final against Agiskoviner. Alex Greenfield and Dani King won the women's Madison event ahead of the pairing of Corrine Hall and Hannah Barnes. And ahead of the Paracycling World Championships, Barney Storey and Neil Fachie recorded a lifetime best of one minute 03.436 seconds in the tandem invitation one kilometre event.
