Tour de France runner-up pulls out during stage eight
Andy Schleck has pulled out of the Tour of Spain, according to race organisers.
The Luxembourg rider finished second behind Alberto Contador at the Tour de France in July and had returned to the saddle looking to go one better in the Spanish equivalent.
However, Schleck decided to quit during the mountainous eighth stage of the event on Sunday.
He gave up after 88 kilometres of the 204.7km route from Alzira to a summit finish at Aitana.
Schleck began the day in 51st place overall, three minutes and 10 seconds behind race leader and Saxo Bank team-mate Fabian Cancellara.
