Stephen Harmison

Player Details

Name: Stephen Harmison

Date of birth: 23/10/1978

International Team: N/A

Domestic Team: Durham

Role: Bowler

Bowling Style: Right arm fast

Batting Style: Right-hand

- Test Debut: v India at Trent Bridge, August 2002
- ODI Debut: v Sri Lanka at the Gabba, December 17 2002
- T20I Debut: v Australia at the Rose Bowl, June 13 2005
- Tall fast bowler whose appearance can be deceptive.
- There were questions about his attitude early in his career, but Harmison showed his potential in 2004 with a devastating period of fast-bowling in the two series against the West Indies, including his career best 7-12 at Sabina Park.
- Has struggled with injury and form since his stand-out year but again proved his worth during the 2005 Ashes, most notably by taking the crucial last wicket in the astonishing two-run victory at Edgbaston to level the series.
- Secured his best match figures of 11/76 in the second Test against Pakistan at Old Trafford in 2006.
- Despite having over 200 Test wickets to his name is perhaps best known for the opening delivery of the 2006/7 Ashes series. It flew straight to Andrew Flintoff at second slip and set the tone for England's miserable tour.
- After a crisis of form and confidence, Harmison was left out of the second Test against New Zealand in early 2008.
- He didn't regain his place until the final Test of the summer - Kevin Pietersen's first as captain - where he played a key role in a consolation win over South Africa.
- Pietersen convinced him to come out of one-day retirement, and Harmison was a key performer in England's 4-0 series win over the Proteas.
