Australia's pace attack may be bursting with young talent, but James Pattinson is clearly the leader of the pack.
Pattinson's impressive Test debut against New Zealand in 2011, when he picked up six wickets and a man-of-the-match award, was somewhat overshadowed by the fact Australians were still salivating over Patrick Cummins's remarkable debut against South Africa just a few weeks earlier.
However, while Cummins has yet to add to his solitary Test as he continues to battle injury, Pattinson is now one of the first names on Australia's team sheet.
That's not to say he hasn't had his own share of injury woes, missing out on most of last summer thanks to a rib problem, but he has since regained full fitness and was Australia's most threatening pace bowler on the disastrous tour of India.
A strike rate of a wicket every 43 deliveries, Pattinson was one of the gang of four dropped in India for failing to do their homework, but unlike some of the others involved, the Victorian's reputation and standing amongst the Australian public has barely diminished as a result.
The battle between Pattinson and England pace spearhead James Anderson could prove to be a defining moment of both men's careers.
