Man of the day

Ian Bell scored his third century in as many Ashes Tests on day one at Lord's

Ian Bell stepped in to save England's first innings with his 19th Test Century.

Ian Bell: England batsman celebrates his 19th Test hundred, and third in as many Tests against Australia

Ian Bell came to England's rescue again on the opening day of the second Ashes Test at Lord's.

The Warwickshire right-hander's match-turning 109 in the second innings at Trent Bridge last week set up England's 14-run win in the series opener.

And he managed exactly the same score after coming to the crease with England 28-3 after opting to bat first at Lord's.

Bell's latest hundred was the 19th of his Test career, moving him level with Len Hutton at ninth in the list of English century makers.

It is also his third in as many Ashes Tests, a run that started with his Ashes-clinching knock in Sydney in January 2011.

Bell joins Jack Hobbs (twice), Wally Hammond and Chris Broad as the only England batsmen to have achieved that particular feat, a major turnaround for the 31-year-old given that he failed reach three figures in his first 17 Tests against Australia.

Who is better placed after day one of second Ashes Test at Lord's?
