Australian to start two-year contract later this month
Australian Geoff Marsh has been appointed as the new coach of Sri Lanka.
The former Aussie opener has been handed a two-year contract by Sri Lanka Cricket.
The 52-year-old will replace Trevor Bayliss, who stepped down after the team's World Cup final defeat to India in April.
A Sri Lanka Cricket statement said: "With his vast coaching and playing experience at the highest levels, Sri Lanka Cricket is confident that he would be an ideal choice for the post of Sri Lanka national team head coach."
Marsh will take up his new post on September 27.
His first task will be to lead Sri Lanka in a three-Test series against Pakistan in the Middle East, starting next month.
Marsh won 50 Test caps and represented his country in 119 one-day internationals. He also coached Australia from 1997-2000 and Zimbabwe from 2000-04. He won the World Cup as a player in 1987 and as coach 12 years later.
The appointment will end an unsettled six months for Sri Lanka, who have had both Stuart Law and Rumesh Ratnayake in charge for temporary spells in recent months.
