Wicket woes

Kevin Pietersen was the first of the six wickets to fall

England's hopes of winning the opening Ashes Test at the Gabba suffered a massive setback after sensational batting slump against Australia.

Highlights of the second day of the first test between Australia and England from Brisbane. For extended highlights sign in to Sky Go.

England had seemed well placed as they reached 82-2 in reply to Australia's 295 all out.

However a spell of six wickets for nine runs well and truly handed the initiative back to the hosts in Brisbane.

And here is how the Aussies turned the game on its head...

1.42pm (local time) - 82-3
Kevin Pietersen had come through a barrage of early bouncers from Mitchell Johnson, only to clip Ryan Harris to midwicket for a tame end to his first innings in his 100th Test.

2.09pm - 87-4
Michael Carberry's patient vigil foundered on Johnson's pace and bounce from round the wicket as he fended a catch to second slip.

2.15pm - 87-5
Ian Bell's was a soft dismissal for a batsman of his undoubted world class as he became the first of Nathan Lyon's victims snaffled at short-leg.

Brad Haddin has praised Australia's bowlers after they tore through England's batting line up in the afternoon session.

2.18pm - 87-6
Matt Prior fell for his second golden duck at this venue in consecutive innings - three years apart. He edged Lyon on to his thigh-pad and into the hands of a jubilant short-leg. Aleem Dar did not detect the edge, but DRS did.

2.25pm - 89-7
Joe Root had no answer to England's troubles, steering an attempted drive into the slips off Johnson.

2.35pm - 91-8
Graeme Swann's departure just before tea - caught bat-pad off Johnson - meant England were struggling even to avoid the follow-on.

Catch day three of the first Ashes Test at the Gabba on Sky Sports 2 HD from 11.30pm on Friday.
