Sidebottom expects an improved England performance at Edgbaston

The first thing to say after missing last week's Test match at Headingley is that my back now feels fantastic! I had an injection and was then rested for it to take effect, and it has certainly worked its magic. I can't wait to get back out there playing. It will be great to take a few wickets and help our bowling unit bowl South Africa out. In the build up to the third Test, I had a light bowl on Thursday and then ran in about 80 percent on Saturday. On Tuesday I bowed two spells 'full on' for around an hour and woke up this morning feeling fine, and am raring to go again. As you can probably tell, I'm desperate to pull on an England shirt once more! Our squad met up on Monday and in the morning we had a big meeting about the South African team before moving on to what we need to do to improve. While we acknowledge the South African's have played well, we know there are elements of our game that can be stepped up. We have trained well since that meeting, but then again, putting in the hard yards has never been an issue for this side. We all bust a gut off the field to ensure our fitness is as good as it can be.

Selection

We've already named our starting XI and while it is tough on Steve Harmison and Stuart (Broad) to miss out, the onus is now on the rest of us bowlers to perform, knowing that we have quality performers like those two waiting in the wings. I know both of them will be desperate to perform for their counties, to work their way back into this side. On the plus side, naming the team early does give the rest of the lads the chance to focus completely on the game and relax, in the knowledge that they are already selected. The South African's have had a change enforced on them, with Andre Nel replacing the injured Dale Steyn.
Aggression
There is no doubt that Steyn is a great bowler and losing him will be a big blow for them, but we will certainly not be underestimating Andre. He has played plenty of county cricket and is kind of an English style bowler; someone who will keep running in, over after over, and show a fair amount of aggression with it. This is certainly a huge game but I honestly see no reason why we can't win and really put the South African's under pressure. If we can get some big runs on the board, you might well see Monty (Panesar) come into his own, as the indications are that this pitch will turn at some stage. He will have to wait his turn though as us seamers will also be keen to get amongst the wickets.
