England bounced back from their opening loss to Sri Lanka with a 32-run success over the hosts in Mumbai which left all four teams in Group A on two points after the second round of fixtures.
After her superb knock of 109, England skipper Edwards said of her team's display: "Today was about character, coming out and giving a good team performance and we certainly did that - the standards we've set today are those that we want to continue.
"Jhulan Goswami bowled exceptionally well upfront, Sarah and I knew we had to ride it out and then we kicked on. Once you get in on this pitch it's very hard for people to get you out.
"I'm very proud of the team and pleased to be able to contribute, it meant a lot to me as today was about the team.
The century saw Edwards become the leading scorer in women's one-day internationals although that wasn't at the forefront of her mind.
"The record is something for me to look back on at the end of my career not something I'll focus on at the moment," she said.
"I'm delighted with a win and that a lot of people have contributed to it, now we have to carry our form on from here."
England face West Indies in their next match, on Tuesday in Mumbai.
