India's fringe players have a chance to stake their claim for a World Cup spot next year when they face Bangladesh in three one-day internationals this week.

All three ODI’s are taking place in the Bangladesh capital of Dhaka where the tourists will compete without many first choice stars.

These include skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni and prolific batsman Virat Kohli, with India to be captained by Suresh Raina - the first match takes place on Sunday.

Just four members of the squad – Cheteshwar Pujara, Ajinkya Rahane, Stuart Binny and Wriddhiman Saha – will tour England this summer and Raina said: "The young Indian team is coming up.

“They have done well in the IPL and first class and so you need to give a chance to youngsters as the World Cup is approaching.

"It's a great platform for them to cement their places in the Indian team.”

Pujara, who has only played two ODIs in his career, added: "Playing against Bangladesh in their home conditions won't be that easy.  We have a young side so it will be competitive."

The matches at Shere Bangla National Stadium – in the Dhaka district of Mirpur – are being played on June 15-17-19.
