Pakistan call up Yasir Shah and Anwar Ali for New Zealand series

Pakistan have called up Yasir Shah and Anwar Ali for the remaining one-day matches against New Zealand to replace injured bowlers Umar Gul and Bilawal Bhatti.

Gul injured his left tendon during Pakistan’s victory in the first ODI last Monday, while Bhatti injured his hand during training.

Leg spinner Shah and pace bowler Ali could play in Sunday’s third ODI in the United Arab Emirates.

The fitness of captain Misbah-ul-Haq is also a concern for Pakistan after he suffered a hamstring injury during the four-wicket defeat to the Black Caps in the second match on Friday in Sharjah.

All-rounder Shahid Afridi will lead the team if Misbah is ruled out for the remaining three ODIs in the series, which is tied at 1-1.

Chief selector Moin Khan said: "With fitness issues ruling them out for the duration of the next three ODIs, both Gul and Bhatti are being sent back home to go through rehabilitation.

"The inclusion of all-rounder Anwar Ali will strengthen our pace department while Yasir Shah has performed very well in recent matches.

"Despite fitness issues dogging many key players, it still remains a pretty strong side.

"I am positive that it would perform to its potential in the three remaining ODIs."
