Scotland suffered a 199-run defeat against New Zealand A in Ayr in the first of three one-day matches against the tourists.

Grant Elliott and BJ Watling both hit centuries for the Black Caps, as the visitors posted a daunting total of 347-6 before the Scots were bowled out for just 148 in the 33rd over.

Scotland, with George Munsey making his debut, began relatively well as David Murphy caught Anton Devcich for 17 off the bowling of Alasdair Evans.

But wickets were subsequently slow to fall, and a second wicket for Evans and two for Majid Haq proved insufficient to stop New Zealand's second string racking up a significant total.

Scotland never looked like making serious inroads on the total from the moment opener Hamish Gardiner was trapped in front for four.
