Billy Bowden has been restored to the Emirates Elite Panel of umpires for the 2014-15 season.
The flamboyant New Zealander replaces compatriot Tony Hill, who stepped down from the panel earlier this year to take over as New Zealand Cricket's umpire coach.
Bowden previously served on the elite panel from 2003-2013 and has umpired in 76 Tests, 189 one-day internationals and 21 Twenty20 internationals.
He was dropped in June last year but returned to the field during the Ashes series in Australia, when he served as on-field umpire in the third Test in Perth and television umpire for the fourth Test in Melbourne.
Selection panel chairman Geoff Allardice said: "Billy's return to the elite panel is a result of his hard work and perseverance. His skills and experience will further strengthen the ICC umpiring team."
