New Zealand paceman Doug Bracewell - ruled out of the first Test against England after suffering a gashed right foot - has been warned about his conduct.

Bracewell missed training at the University Oval on Tuesday and did not undergo a scheduled fitness test, and a spokesman for New Zealand Cricket soon confirmed he would take no part in the series opener.

The Kiwi seamer apparently stepped on some broken glass in an "unfortunate incident" over the weekend, with reports suggesting he had hosted a party at his home in Napier.

The 22-year-old issued an apology for his behaviour to NZC, who have warned Bracewell over his future conduct, although his omission from the Test side this week is not believed to be a disciplinary measure.

Responsibility

An earlier statement from NZC read: "New Zealand Cricket has reminded Black Caps fast bowler Doug Bracewell of his obligations and responsibilities as a NZC contracted player on the eve of the opening ANZ Test in Dunedin.

"He cut his right foot on some glass while cleaning up at his Napier home on Saturday morning."

Team manager Mike Sandle added: "We've told Doug that he needs to take responsibility for what happens around him and that he needs to do all he can to ensure his preparation for international cricket is not compromised.

"Doug is very sorry for any inconvenience he has caused his team-mates and members of the public, and he has apologised to his neighbour in Napier."
